Likely an Exercise in Futility!
Noting that the thermostat is often the centre of family squabbles, a recent press release from Direct Energy in the U.S. suggests that families hold a meeting prior to the start of a heating or cooling season to agree upon a target temperature that all can support. While this is a reasonable idea in theory, one has to wonder how practical it is. Any one familiar with family dynamics knows that in many instances there is a significant gap between those that insist on setting the temperature and those that earn the money required to maintain it. Perhaps a better idea would be to develop a thermostat with a security code but, then again, that would mean that the parents would have to remember the code and that could bring about a whole new set of problems.
